High In The Sky
July 20, 2011

Around 6:30am this morning we spotted an unauthorized person on top of a 150 ft electrical tower at the Hardy Toll Road and Parker. By 7:50am, he had touched ground.  All ended without incident. Traffic was heavy in the morning, delaying southbound commuters by about 15 minutes. This could have affected your power as well, as Centerpoint Energy had to turn off power in the area.

Traffic delays with emergency crews on scene.

A positive outcome.

Construction Alert: Dixie Farm Rd.
July 19, 2011

“Part of IH 45 South Proposition 12 Expansion Project”

Beginning, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 5 a.m. contractors will close the IH 45 South southbound frontage road at Dixie Farm Rd. (FM 1959). This closure will last 6 months.  Traffic will detour to the west access roads to the intersection of Dixie Farm Rd.  Traffic can either turn left on FM 1959, right onto Dixie Farm Rd. or continue through the intersection back to the IH 45 South southbound frontage road.

This closure is part of a Proposition 12 funded project that will widen IH 45 from six lanes to ten lanes from just south of Beltway 8 to El Dorado Blvd.  An additional frontage lane will also be added on each side.  The Dixie Farm Rd. Bridge will also be torn down and reconstructed at street level.

This project is scheduled for completion in 2015.

KPRC Shuffle: Fill-in Fun
July 15, 2011

I’ve been hearing from a lot of you. Just wanted to say thank you for your notes.

Been having a great time with Mary, Hasti and Mariza while filling in for Courtney Z., who is on maternity leave. As you know its been a busy year for babies at Local 2. Hence the shift in anchors on the air. So right now, I’m working weekday mornings (Monday through Wednesday) reporting traffic. Then on Saturday and Sunday mornings, you can catch me anchoring the news, 6-8AM. It looks like that will continue until the end of July.  My last weekend to fill-in is August 13th and 14th. See you then.

Mary Lee and Jennifer, weekend mornings.

Hasti, reporting live in the field.

Mariza, bringing you the news as it happens.

In addition to talking about the local and national headlines, we have fun guests on, all of the time on the weekend morning show. Here are some snapshots from an experiment that we did with Mentos and Coca-Cola; making a mess of the studio.

Gosling Road Extension
June 28, 2010

June 29…Looks like TxDOT did not come through on the opening. Gosling remains closed.

(According to TxDOT….)

Use of Stimulus Funds for Harris County

The new section of Gosling road will definitely be open to traffic on Monday(6/28). Contractors placed signs and guardrail yesterday and all that is left is striping. They were held up a little on putting down final striping because of rain in the area.

The new segment of Gosling Rd. includes a two lane roadway complete with shoulders and turn lanes that will greatly reduce traffic congestion at Kuykendahl and FM 2920. The $1.6 million project was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and a 20% contribution from Harris County.

The "Bumper to Bumper" Blog…
October 24, 2007

is Born. So what will it cover, you ask? Well let’s see – anything and everything that encompasses traffic. Let’s say there is a big accident with a freeway closed…you’ll need an alternate and I’ll post several versions in detail, right here. Sometimes, on-air, we are very limited on time, so it makes sense to write a thorough explanation in the blog. Houston is also notoriously known for on-going construction. It would be helpful to know what areas to avoid and whether or not detours are set up. I also work on feature stories; those too will be posted. But wait, it’s not aallllll business; there will be fun posts as well, including emails from you guys and upcoming event details that I may be attending. So, I’ll see you in the mornings before you hit that Bumper to Bumper traffic. Smiles.
