What’s With ‘The-Do?’
June 17, 2011

You may have noticed a few weeks ago…when my hair was filled with curls. I woke up – thinking – “Wow, what am I going to do with all of this hair?” “Brush it out? Pin it back? Tie it up?” My options were limited as I rushed against the clock to get to work. I knew I was going to look a bit showy for a Friday morning, but knew you all would kindly pardon the change.

Friday, May 13th morning newscast

The evening before Friday’s newscast, I emceed an event for the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston (HisBA). Hence, the ringlets. (HisBA by the way…is a nonpartisan, nonprofit professional organization dedicated to the advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession and the advocacy of issues of concern to the Hispanic community at the local, state, and national level). The money raised went to help a well deserved group of students pay for some of their law expenses.

The special night, in honor of those being awarded, called for an up-do (See the coiffure below). A big thanks to my very talented friend and stylist, Lindsey Kern at Michaelyndon’s Salon. She worked her magic. I’m guessing that there were a good 40 pins in my hair and lots of spray for Houston’s humidity.

My thanks to all of the wonderful folks at HisBA, as well, it was an honor to be a part of their evening.

I emceed a spring luncheon for The Gathering Place yesterday…which is an organization that helps adults with mental illness. They’re funded by private donations – from contributions given by people like you and me. Money given goes to help in so many ways…to shuttle their patients around the city, to put together activities and other day-to-day expenses that help the mentally ill feel less alone in life. If this is a cause that you’d like to give to :

The Houston Country Club

Mental illness is a difficult thing for “others” to understand or even recognize. But, can you imagine knowing that you are different inside…with your thinking or brain activity, but not be able to control it or know what to do? There are people that feel “trapped” everyday within their own skin – a very tough thing to deal with in life. And this is why I fully support causes/organizations which fund research and help those suffering. -Jennifer

Helping Children With Cancer
October 25, 2009

I was very pleased when asked to host the 2nd Annual Country Ball(2009) benefiting Houston’s Ronald McDonald House. Since 1981, The Ronald McDonald House has offered a home away from home to the families of children undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. At least $33,000 has been raised this year. Here are some of the pictures of Saturday night’s event. If you’d like to make a contribution, here’s their link:

Benefitting TEW
February 3, 2009

Last Tuesday, January 27th, I spent the evening hosting the Grand Re-opening event of Michaelyndon’s Salon with over 300 people in attendance. Guests enjoyed mini make overs, neck massages and hair fluffing along with door prizes, raffle, drinks and lite bites. All proceeds went to benefit the scholarship fund of Texas Executive Women (TEW). TEW supports programs that recognize, develop and fund the advancement of women and girls in our community. Through its diverse membership, the organization works to inspire women and girls to achieve their goals and give back to the community.  Since TEW began its mentoring programs in 1993, it has touched the lives of more than 1,800 middle and high school girls throughout the greater Houston-area.
