Q: Do you know of any reason why the 290 HOV lanes are the only ones that have a three person rule? Just curious…

Jenny D.

A: The occupancy requirement for the 290 diamond lanes is 2+ at all times (this is the non-barrier separated portion). The barrier separated HOV lane is 2+ most of the time, except during morning rush hours (6:45 a.m. – 8a.m.).  The 3+ requirement for the barrier separated HOV has been in place since 1999 due to the level of traffic on this corridor. We continue to monitor the volume of traffic but please note that per the Federal Transit Administration, we are required to maintain traffic flow at 45 mph or higher. – METRO

New HPD Site to Help Citizens “Find My Towed Car”

HPD has launched of a new tool that will help the public, HPD personnel and storage lot operators determine where vehicles are stored in the event their vehicle is towed from a location, otherwise known as a non-consent tow.

The new website, provides access to information pertaining to vehicles stored as a result of non-consent tows.

This new system is more time efficient, allows the general public to make inquiries into missing vehicles without repeated phone calls, and the receipt and release of vehicles can be tracked by storage lot owners electronically and in real-time.

 Q: Jennifer,

I have not heard you mention the I-45 major traffic switch at Dixie Farm Rd. some time in the next couple of days.  The northbound sign says it will start tonight at 9:00 pm but the southbound sign I think says 10/01.

Frank S.

A: Here’s a quote from TxDOT:

Tonight the contractor is removing a large overhead sign structure on the IH 45 north bound main lanes just before the FM 1959/Dixie Farm Rd. exit Thursday night starting at 9:00 PM.  For the contractor to remove the sign structure they will preform a rolling lane closure of the freeway north bound.  This means that the freeway might be stopped for a few minutes while the structure is lifted from it’s foundation and placed in between the main lanes and frontage road.

This weekend the contractor originally scheduled for a traffic switch on the IH 45 north bound main lanes but due to issues with the amount of work they are rescheduling for next weekend starting October 7, 2011 9:00 PM..

They however are still going to switch traffic on IH 45 south bound main lanes starting Saturday 9:00 PM October 1, 2011 until Sunday 8:00 AM October 2, 2011.  The traffic on the south bound main lanes will be detoured onto the temporary south bound main lane detour.

The freeway closure will extend until Monday 5:00 AM October 3, 2011 just in case we run into any issues. – TxDOT
