Avance Gala 2010

Last Friday, I emceed the Avance 2010 Gala at the Hilton (Post Oak) – which turned out to be an evening to celebrate! A record number of tables/tickets were sold all to support a VERY IMPORTANT cause. AVANCE, which has been around 22 years in Houston…is focused on proactive work. Just take a look at their mission statement: “Unlocking America’s potential by strengthening families in at-risk communities through effective parent education and support programs….” AVANCE serves primarily Hispanic families in low-income, at-risk communities with a research-proven program model that is preventative, community-based, two-generation focused and comprehensive in scope.  http://www.avancehouston.org

Over the years, AVANCE has helped thousands of families. They’ve changed the odds for children at risk here in Houston. During my tour of their site a few weeks ago, I had the chance to hear from some of the parents. They were in the middle of crafting handmade gifts to give to their children. They were all very happy with the programs and one parent even pulled me aside and said, “really, AVANCE has helped my family a great deal.” He implied that the organization was ‘the real deal.’ Here are pictures from the night of the gala-where money was raised to help families just like the one mentioned above.
