Golfing For Charity
July 19, 2009

Follow up posting to the entry: Jen To Attend Golf Tournament

I had a great time last week out at The Blackhorse Golf Course for the Sports Radio 610 Golf Classic.  I enjoyed the heat, but forgot SPF…so I was trying to catch as much shade as possible. It was all for a nice cause…to raise money for a children’s charity called The First Tee Of Houston. If you have a little one, take a quick glance at the link posted on previous posting to see if its something that could help your friends and family.

Here we are under the shade of the clubhouse…We had just finished a live segment and then Adam Clanton began reading material for the Sports Radio 610 break. He’s concentrating, isn’t he?

A:
Earlier in the month, the steel girder beneath the IH 45 northbound lanes was hit by an 18-wheeler transporting a piece of heavy equipment higher than the permitted load which truck and damaged the beam as the driver attempted to make the connection from IH 45 southbound to Loop 610 eastbound. TxDOT had to close the inside lane of IH 45 northbound near Loop 610 to remove the load from the bridge until repairs are made, leaving motorists confined to two northbound lanes in the area.

It took time for the city to decide on a contractor and materials had to be ordered…price tag $107K!

They plan to re-open that left lane by the end of July.

A: METRO doesn’t give a concrete answer for traffic relief…

There was a derailment about 2 weeks ago during a training run. There is an investigation into the cause and until that is complete, Metro says…”to expect delays.” They are aware that the northbound train is moving 10mph and the southbound train is moving 5mph between Fannin-Braeswood and Greenbriar-Braeswood. [No estimate as to when the investigation will wrap up]
