George Lopez in Houston
February 23, 2008

(George Lopez and Jen)

A standing room only crowd of an estimated 19,000 people came to see “America’s Mexican,” George Lopez, this past Saturday(2/16) night at the Toyota Center. As some of you may remember, I had the opportunity to meet George in Beaumont a few months back and promised I would catch his act when he came to Houston. I was amongst the many of you that battled through the sometimes heavy rain and treacherous traffic around the Toyota Center to catch his act.

Bryan Kellen opened the show and did a great job warming up the crowd. George followed up by bringing down the house. From what I could see, I was not the only person having a great time at the show. It was the best…to hear such a large crowd break out in laughter, over and over throughout the night.

The fun did not stop backstage after the comedy show…we simply moved the gathering to a lounge in Midtown. Lopez was swamped with attention and photo requests, as you can imagine. He didn’t hesitate to get in front of the flashing bulbs and bring big smiles to adoring fans. He mentioned, “Jen, this might have been my best show ever.” Houston, all because of you.

USA vs Mexico (soccer)
February 15, 2008

USA-USA-USA, Mexico! Mexico! Mexico! The chants were coming from every direction as 71,500 soccer fans packed Reliant Stadium, Wednesday, February 6, 2008. A highly anticipated re-match had everyone revved up and ready to scream.

Diehard fans in their team apparel could easily be spotted from afar; painted faces, capes and sombreros were common accessories. The pictures say it all, dont they?

Well, I have to say THANK YOU to our friends from TV Azteca for the tickets. Another fun event to add to the memories! Kevin and Glen, both fellow employees of mine at KPRC were working the game as well. They help our morning show run smoothly – thanks guys!
Good times.

(Listen to Comedian, Darren Carter)

This past Saturday, February 9th, was a very memorable and amusing night for me, to say the least, when I had the opportunity to catch Darren Carter, The Party Starter, at the Laff Stop.

There were definitely some fireworks, even some sparklers, in the building that night, and Darren Carter provided most of the firepower. If you enjoy a comedian who incorporates the audience into his act, impersonates Snoop Dogg like no other, and someone who has non-stop energy during his entire performance, Darren Carter is the man to catch.

Update :
The Houston Hispanic Forum was a real success at the George R. Brown Convention Center this past weekend. I spoke with a group of other media professionals, including Leticia Juarez, general reporter, KHOU-11, Osvaldo Corral, Anchor/Reporter, Univision-45 and Benjamin Frieventh, SEMANA Newspaper. Our conversations with the students and parents concentrated on the importance of college, funding and our career moves. Our hope was to resonate inspiration and give real answers to any unresolved questions.

Original Posting 2/8/08:
I was invited, on behalf of the Houston Hispanic Forum, to participate in their 22nd Annual Hispanic Forum’s Career & Education Day as a Panel Speaker. The event will be held this Saturday, February 10, 2007, at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Career and Education Day is a unique event where students attend panels and are given the opportunity to listen to professionals and learn about the importance of the higher education they need to help them prepare for their future success. This year’s event will have over 53 career panels and is expected to attract over 16,000 students and parents.

Morning Meterologist, Anthony Yanez and morning reporter, Mariza Reyes are also representing KPRC Local 2 at this important event. It’s going to be a real pleasure to help answer questions and guide students toward a bright future. I’ll follow-up after the event, so look for an update to this blog posting.
